Help us grow our emerging cricketers.

Otago

Russell Mawhinney will be hiking up Mt Kilimanjaro next month to raise awareness and encourage people to donate to Heartland Cricket Trust.

With your donations, the Trust can do more to help young cricketers in Otago and Southland.

Russell formed the Heartland Cricket Trust in 2019 to help young, talented country kids who love cricket.

That young talent needs to be nurtured, and Otago Cricket has pathway programs to help develop our young players.

For country kids, this often means travelling to and from Dunedin for many months of squad training to have a shot at realising their dreams. Or they need to further their education in the city so they can one day make a career out of their love of cricket in whatever form that might take.

Town kids may not have to travel as far for training but still need support. Money should never be a factor that prevents someone from advancing in cricket.

The Otago Cricket Fundraising Charitable Trust was formed many years ago to help in this area, and now the Heartland Cricket Trust is doing the same for cricketers throughout Otago and Southland.

When Russell decided to hike up Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania it occurred to him that he could somehow use the trip to attract donations from people who want to support our emerging talent.

By donating to this page you will directly be helping these young people realise their dreams.

All funds raised will be split between the Heartland Cricket Trust and the Otago Cricket Fundraising Charitable Trust to help promising young cricketers from throughout Otago and Southland take their next step.

Well that was tough - up and down. Not something I'd say you enjoy. You experience it rather than enjoy it I think. On to the Serengeti now for some r&r but feel free to pass the word - we need your support to help these young cricketers. Thank you.
