A final project of Beth's, help her bring a children's book to New Zealand to support families impacted by Motor Neurone Disease

$15,010 of $20,000 goal
Given by 131 generous donors in around 3 months

Help support bringing a children's book to New Zealand whānau to help them in understanding a diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND)

Nationwide

Beth is strongly committed to supporting those impacted by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). She has been involved with MND Association of New Zeland, both as president, part of National Council and now a life member.

Even with her own recent cancer diagnosis, mum has us organised to see through this final project - thinking of others throughout her life! She recognises the importance of helping families and especially young children in understanding what may lie ahead when their loved ones are impacted by terminal illness.

"What Did You Learn Today?", a children's book produced in America, was written to help children in the USA understand what is happening to someone who gets ALS (called MND in NZ). Beth wants to share this book with New Zealand whānau, while also bringing a touch of New Zealand to it.

By supporting this cause you are helping Beth achieve this and those impacted families... A key motivation for Beth is her learning that "MND itself is isolating, MND for children is especailly isolating...anything we can do to bring understanding and a way of talking about it with kids could help...something they and their families can read together and pick up again and again."

Please support Beth's Project and donate today to help bring this to fruition.

Kia kaha and we thank you for your support

Use of funds

Bringing a copy of "What Did You Learn Today?", a book written to help children in the USA to understand what is happening to someone who gets MND, to New Zealand whānau experiencing the same journey with consideration of a New Zealand context. All monies raised will assist in the procurement, updates to a NZ context and distribution of "What Did You Learn Today?" in New Zealand, supported by the MND Association of New Zealand

Beth's Heart Project: Supporting Families Impacted by Motor Neurone Disease  5 December 2023

It has been almost 6 months since Beth’s death.

We have actively worked to bring Beth’s Heart Project to life, and can say with great satisfaction that due to your generosity we have achieved her vision of purchasing 500 ‘What Did You Learn Today?’ books.

Enough books to last several years. This is a massive achievement and an honourable way to remember Beth.

Thank you all for your support.

Beth had a magical ability to engage with children and the book is particularly orientated to assist families to talk about MND with children. The books are being distributed by MNDNZ, as part of the kit their invaluable support advisors in the community have to help families come to terms with MND and its progressive consequences.

The feedback to date is that it has been warmly received in bridging a resource gap.

All books have an insert written by Beth and to provide a New Zealand context.

Thankyou again for your contribution, faith and care for others, in enabling us to make this a success. As well as helping families affected by MND, project completion means a lot for our family.

Doug, Anita, Eloise & Calvin Watson
