Suse's brain is being mean to her and it's not good for anyone. Will you help her access an ADHD Assessment?!

Canterbury

50 years of my life & still, trying to get up that great big hill of... understanding? ...of being understood? Of finding me & my place among you?

Kia ora, nice to meet you. I am Suse & I have recently discovered that my lifelong struggles might have an explanation: neurodiversity; specifically, ADHD &/or ASD (with a bit of complex trauma thrown in for good measure).

My struggles started when I was still in kindergarten. During adolescence, I learned to shape myself to fit in with the world around me, because not having friends sucked. I did it quite well, but it was (& is) exhausting. For a little while there I succeeded: I studied & did great. I worked & was valued. I made friends & they cared about me. But, over time, all of these things became impossible to keep up. Why?

My awesome partner has had to sacrifice so much for me over our 12 years together, because, by now, I cannot even walk further than to the letter box, stand up long enough to boil an egg, or face the outside world without debilitating social anxiety. Not to speak of the really dark times of deep depression. I live between bed & armchair, paralysed by my own brain.

An ADHD assessment might make all the difference in my world, in my partner’s world, even, in an ever so small way in your world. Because, if there is a treatment out there that can get me back to working, contributing, creating, singing, laughing, living…

I have so much more to offer, I promise. Please help me do so.

Use of funds

All donations will be used to help pay for Suse's psychiatric assessment & appropriate therpeutic care.

Quick Blast (From the Past) of Gratitude  22 May 2025

Oh hi there! If you are getting this as an email, it's because you were one of the heroes in my life who donated to my first ADHD assessment a little over two years ago. I just wanted to let you know that I have been able to get another assessment, and am, as of this day of writing, officially AuDHD (diagnosed autistic with ADHD). I have been prescribed meds and am looking forward to them making a hopefully very significant difference in my life, as well as that of my partner Ed's, who has been the biggest hero in supporting me through some really tough times. Anyhoo, I just wanted to take the opportunity to let you know that your contributions (and, for many of you who know me personally, your friendship and emotional support) have been invaluable in my journey and I am so, so, so thankful for you! Good on yas, mates! (Eek, I just made myself cringe! ;D)

Lots of love and all the best to you! oxo

Suse
