Fire in Taranaki destroying young man's house truck and livelihood
Taranaki
On thursday night Liam was welding on his house truck and the metal got too hot and sparked a fire, resulting in ambulance and fire fighters quickly arriving at the scene.
Within 2 minutes his home, vehicle, and everything he owned was in flames. Nothing was salvageable from the fire. As well as damage to the shed and borrowed welder and other tools. He was working on the truck at a mates place meaning that there is no insurance for anything that was destroyed.
Liam brought this old horse truck in 2021 and since then has completely restored and renovated it from carrying horses to his home with full size kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room area.
Since he got the truck he goes to work everyday and then comes home and works on it to all hours of the night doing it up.
His dream of living and travelling in his house truck at the age of 20 was merely a month or 2 off being completely finished, before the disaster on Thursday night.
He is now left with nothing and trying to get back on his feet. With a $26k loan and no home to show for it.
So every little bit of support and kindness is appreciated.
Liam is my brother
The funds will go towards buying necessities, paying off damages due to fire, and paying off loan.
Happy days! :) 10 August 2022
Good morning everyone!
Thought I would post a little update, sorry for not replying to as many people as I would have liked, I will endeavour to thank those of you I am in contact with but feel free to flick me a message if you're keen to catch up! :) Sarah has been doing such a wonderful job of thanking you all, what a blessing family is!
Ive been back up in the trees and even in a cherry picker trimming Washington palms in the above picture!
This whole truck bbq...
well on one hand what a traumatic ordeal!... But on the other hand, what a wonderful chance to see Gods grace and the kindness and support of so many people! Half of which I don't even know!!
I've always been a bit of a proud wee chap, and I was always been determined to give but not to receive. This has been a huge lesson in the folly of that and the joy that can come from graciously accepting a gift as it was given, in love!
So many lessons have been learnt and continue to be learnt through this, not the least of which being:
People are more important than things!
At the end of the day it is just stuff, sure it really sucks its gone, sure it'll take a while to financially recover... But at least it's just stuff, no one got badly hurt!
The kind people at Liberty Baptist Church in inglewood have provided me with a Woofing situation that gives me the opportunity to help on renovations and maintenance work around the property and to be able to learn from the wealth of knowledge available to me there!
So I will stay here for a while and rest and figure out what direction I want to charge next! :)
I have found myself singing that old tune:
"don't worry be happy now, doo do do..." you get the tune!
Live every day in gods peace and the silent reassurance that everything will be okay in the end and if things aren't okay? Then it's not the end yet!
I'm am just trucking on, one day at a time, and currently on my way down to waverly to go hunting with my friends!
Thanks again for all of your immense support and generosity!! With the money I will firstly make sure my mates roof and gear gets replaced then just take what's left off my loan!
Wishing you all a merry Wednesday!
-Liam
