I'm raising money to go and work with Destiny Rescue for 2 weeks. They rescue, restore & protect girls from child slavery & sex trafficking.
Wellington
Destiny Rescue is a charity which rescues, restores and protect girls (and boys) from child sexual exploitation and slavery. I am fundraising to go on a short term team trip (2 weeks, hopefully in February 2017 or later in the year) visiting and working with projects in Cambodia and Thailand. I will be invoved in working with the girls, teaching English and craft, playing games with them etc.
The paragraphs below from their website tell you more about what I am hoping to do:
"Destiny Rescue invites you to come catch the vision of our work in Cambodia and Thailand! Learn about the evil of child sex trafficking—and see the ways Destiny Rescue is working to restore children’s lives.
On a Team Trip, you’ll have the chance to meet and share your story with rescued girls. You’ll get to know the volunteers and staff who are fighting to end child sex trafficking. You’ll visit a red light district and see the environment we’re rescuing girls. This is a truly life-changing trip!"
To encourage you to support me, I will be doing a 3 week long triathlon in November/December. This will be 7km swimming (280 lengths of the local pool, over 1 week) 70km walking (over a second week, mixture of treadmill and outdoor walks) and 140km cycling (over a third week on my exercise bike or a bike at the gym). Owing to life/work commitments, the 3 weeks may not be consecutive.
Donations are given to Destiny Rescue who then make all the flight arrangements. Any excess funds raised will go directly to the charity too.
Having recently seen a presentation about this charity, I really want to get involved with their work.
The aim of the trip is to enable me to work with the rescued girls in various Destiny Rescue homes over a period of two weeks. The trip is also designed to inspire and empower those who go to make a difference long-term. This trip is a chance for me to gain a deep understanding of the issues surrounding child sex trafficking—and what I can do to help end it! When i return home, I am hoping to get involved in supporting Destinty Rescue either by fundraising and/or as an advocate for them.
Finished!!! 21 November 2016
It was hard work in places, and took a lot of hours (roughly 28 I think), but I did it, and in 3 consecutive weeks. Even an earthquake didn't stop me, although it did mean I had to do some long rides at the end of the week.
Thank you so much for your very generous donation. It's taken my fund raising over the $1000 mark - thank you!!!
