Barefoot across NZ to raise mental health awareness: walking 3,000 km on Te Araroa to show no one walks their journey alone.
Kerikeri, Northland
Kia Ora, I'm Kenton Caldwell.
In late 2025, I’ll begin an unshod journey across Aotearoa: walking the full 3,000 km Te Araroa Trail barefoot, from Cape Reinga to Bluff.
Why barefoot? Because mental health can strip you raw. I live with Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, and social anxiety, just to name a few, and I know what it’s like to feel exposed, vulnerable, and alone. This walk is a personal challenge — but it’s also a public statement.
Every step is for those who feel they can’t take one more.
I’m doing this to:
Raise mental health awareness in New Zealand.
Spark honest conversations about depression, anxiety, and neurodivergence.
Remind people that resilience looks different for everyone.
Funds raised beyond trail costs will go to I AM HOPE Foundation. I will document the journey via video, photos, and honest storytelling, sharing the tough days and the triumphs.
But right now, I need help to get there.
Your support will help cover:
Basic ultralight hiking gear
Food & minimal resupply costs
Occasional shelter (especially in emergencies)
If you can't donate, sharing this page means the world. Let’s walk this road together — barefoot, vulnerable, and honest, and show others that they don't need to fight their silent battles alone. ❤️
Funds raised beyond trail costs will go to I AM HOPE Foundation for mental health.
