Frances fights on to beat cancer despite the tragic loss of her daughter Katherine to an aggressive infection post lukemia treatment.
Southland
Frances Thompson was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year and was recovering well until another tumour was found in her liver. Whilst receiving chemo to fight this, during lockdown her daughter Katherine aged 11 became unwell and was diagnosed with leukemia.
Katherine was sent to Christchurch for treatment. Whilst there a fungal infection invaded her tiny body. Katherine is now gravely ill receiving palliative care in Invercargill hospital.
Both are courageous and battling together supported by Jack, Amelia and family. This is unbearable for Mum and daughter and our hearts are breaking for this family.
UPDATE 29 June
Sadly Katherine passed away on Friday 26 June 2020.
We cannot comprehend the pain and greif you are facing during this time. Our thoughts and prayers of support, love and strength are continuing for Frances, Amelia, Jack and family.
Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Rest peacefully beautiful girl.
We have been fortunate to have these lovely girls in our lives through my brother Jack who Katherine calls Dad.
Frances is a solo Mum doing an awesome job raising her two daughters. Her expenses being away from home in Christchurch will be mounting. Having access to additional funds will give her choices to enjoy the time they have together without worry.
Hope for Frances 21 August 2020
Great news for Frances. She is to begin radiotherapy on the 31 August. We hope her body responds positively to some intensive treatment. Sending Frances and Amelia all our love and hope for success in beating this cancer.
