First-ever Breast Cancer Survivor team representing Aotearoa at the World Dragon Boat Champs!
26 of our incredible wāhine from BC teams - BooBops, Waikato Treasure Chests, ABOL and CanSurvive, alongside their coach and manager, have been selected to proudly represent New Zealand as part of the national Black Dragons team!
For the first time ever, the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) has created a dedicated category for Breast Cancer Paddlers (BCP) at the 2025 World Championships in Germany. It's history in the making!
These wāhine toa have trained like the champions they are – through rain, wind, early mornings, and all the challenges of high-performance sport. They embody strength, resilience, and determination, sharing an unbreakable bond as teammates and survivors.
It's been a journey of hard work, training, and fundraising, but what an honour to represent themselves, their clubs, and paddlers past and future.
Becoming a Black Dragon is an incredible opportunity that many never anticipated at the start of their breast cancer journey.
Now, they're ready to conquer the world — and we need your support to help them get there. Every donation, whether $5 or $500, makes a difference, bringing their dreams to life and supporting a team that proves there's life, strength, and sisterhood after breast cancer.
💖 Ready to help us make waves in Germany? Let’s show the world what strength truly looks like.
✅This page is set up by Cansurvive, but funds will be shared equally across ALL PARTICIPANTS 😍
We’re a dragon boat club for breast cancer survivors and supporters. We are more than a sports team, it’s a sisterhood. We train hard, laugh harder, and lift each other up through every wave. Our message is simple: there is life after breast cancer.
Each paddler is covering the cost of their journey – a massive $10,000 each – including travel, accommodation, gear, boot camps, and competition fees. That’s a huge ask for individuals, so we’re rallying our community to get behind them.
First boot camp done! 29 May 2025
Super great for our new team to come together for a fantastic weekend on the water!
It was hard!! It was cold, it was AWESOME. We are so excited to connect and paddle and grow together.
Booboops, Cansurvive, Waikato Treasure Chests AND Abreast of Life paddlers working together to show up as NZ's first Breast Cancer Paddlers team. How privileged and humbled do we feel?
