Beka's life changing surgery

$15,545 of $25,000 goal
Given by 425 generous donors in around 5 months

Please help Beka get her life changing surgery!

Otago

"If 1000 people donated just $25 each Beka would be able to get a medically needed weight loss surgery and start living again!" Please know there is absolutely no pressure at all to donate, we do not expect anyone to fork out but if you are interested and able any amount would be so so appreciated!

Since the age of 6 years old I have been 'overweight' at 10 years old it was first recognised that I had mental health issues, the two have horribly controlled my life ever since. My weight has been an absolute rollercoaster over the last 10 years, from rapid weight-loss and self deprivation to binge eating to try comfort myself through the incredibly dark times. Depression and weight gain are a vicious cycle, the worse my depression gets the more I eat to try and find comfort, then I gain weight with makes me more depressed.

Sadly for me it's not as easy as jumping on a diet and going to the gym and the kilos will drop off, over the passed three years I have lost 30 kilos then gained it all back plus more. I diet for months on end and then end up stuck in the depths of my depression and gain back everything I have lost. This year I have been through this cycle four times already, losing up to 12kgs per time.

I am absolutely stuck and honestly trying so hard to stay alive. For me having a weight loss surgery is not a want, it's a NEED! Having surgical intervention would mean that when my mental health plummets my physical health is bought down too. Losing weight would have an incredible impact on my health both physical and mental. I have the backing of medical professionals, including my GP and mental health specialist but sadly there are just not enough publicly funded surgeries and because of the ever increasing wait list I will most likely never make it to the top of the list.

If I am unable to get this surgery it's highly likely that I won't make it to 30 years old, due to the negative implications of both obesity and depression. Thank you for reading x

Use of funds

The cost of surgery alone is $26,500 this does not include travel or accomodation. 100% of money raised will go directly to surgery cost.
