Bikes for Rawhiti School Kids

Rawhiti School, a merger of three in the earthquake struck east only moved into its new buildings at North New Brighton this year and we are embracing cycle safety as our pupils negotiate roads still being repaired.

Generous community donations have allowed it to kickstart a plan to build a track on its grounds so our children can practise riding without the dangers of being in traffic.

But we only halfway there. We now need to purchase 50 brand new bikes and helmets, to be used by all the pupils, and stored away.

We are looking to businesses or individuals to jump on the saddle and put the pedal down, and help make a difference.

We are asking sponsors to pay $300 for a cycle, giving them the rights to put their name on a bike and on the storage container in which the bikes will be secured.

A further $20 will buy a brand new safety approved helmet for a lucky student. We hope to give all students in the school their own helmet.

The bikes will be well maintained and could be used by a lot of children over the years to make sure they have a degree of competency before they tackle the tricky roads.

We'd love for our kids to bike to school regularly and having the bikes and dedicated track at the school allows us to teach them road skills in a safe and controlled environment. It is also something that people in our community will be able to use on weekends and in holidays.
