Help with Bonnie's medical recovery bills
Miramar, Wellington
Hi Everyone,
Our gorgeous girl, Bonnie is going through the wars right now.
Bonnie, was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease in February 2025. She then required urgent, expensive treatment when a complication arose to save her life. The yearly pet insurance of 10k per year is now all used up and won't renew until Dec 2025. The bills are stacking up and she is requiring ongoing care which is incruing many more vet bills, very quickly. Any donations towards Bonnie's ongoing care would be a tremendous help.
In February 2025, Bonnie was diagnosed with Masticatory Muscle Myositis (MMM), an autoimmune disease affecting jaw muscles. Treatment with high-dose steroids caused weakness, and in April she developed a gut leak from a perforated stomach cyst, possibly a side effect of the steroids. The resulting septic peritonitis had a high fatality rate, but Bonnie is still here two and a half weeks later. She is quite a complicated case needing a lot of vet consults and ongoing treatment and analysis with all the medications she is on and side effects. Currently her gut is really unhappy and there is no one reason for it we can figure out easily.
We would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide to help cover the costs of her ongoing treatment which allows the vet team to try everything in reason to keep her alive. Any funds raised will go future vet consultations, regular blood tests, expensive medications, and any future complications that may arise.
Ongoing vet consults, medication, regular tests to check her bloods and other vet care to see Bonnie continue her recovery from surgery and get into remission of the autoimmune disease, plus physio if needed to help muscles recover from atrophy.
Bonnie is doing so good! 11 August 2025
Bonnie is doing really well considering her traumatic year! We are all a little greyer but everything is looking up for our sweet pup!
She has managed to come down to a very low dose of Steroids, 10mg a day for the past month and has not shown any signed of regression with her jaw movement thus far. We are hopeful she can eventually come off the steroids all together one day!
Her body condition has improved hugely! She is now 37kg, the weight she was before she became ill. At her sickest she got to 29kg so this is a massive improvement.
We have been doing regular physio appointments to make sure her mobility is improving and she is doing really well. Last week the Phsyio has said she can now just be checked in on her progress every 6-8 weeks going forward!
The steroids have given her a crazy food drive and unfortunately this has not reduced yet, we are trying to give her more fibre to satiate it but to no avail yet.
She is very much still the sweet Bonnie we know and love and apart from her many patches of missing fur from all the procedures you wouldn't know what she'd been through! The hair is very slowly coming back months on.
Bonnie is back at the beach, back in the office and we couldn't be more relieved!
Thanks again to everyone for your support, it has been such a big help getting her to this point!
