30 year old cancer survivor now battling new breast cancer diagnosis.
Ngaruawahia, Waikato
Hannah is a 30 year old recently diagnosed with Breast cancer(2 masses). Cancer is not new to Hannah. At 16 she was diagnosed with Leukaemia and after a serious battle she went into remission following a bone marrow transplant. Around that period Hannah was involved with CanTeen NZ, which is where we met. Though in remission, Hannah still experienced mild and minor secondary health problems because of Leukaemia and Chemotherapy but has been a brave trooper right through. We were over the moon when we hit the 10-year remission mark and began to look at starting our family. This is a drawn-out process involving the need for IVF and Egg donors.
Earlier this year, Hannah noticed a lump. Obviously, we were hoping for the best-surely getting cancer once in your life is more than enough! Upon investigation we were told it was cancerous. We are devastated.
The costs associated with surgery, treatment and recovery create a huge financial stress and having looked at where we sit financially, we have realised despite having some health insurance there still exists a large shortfall. The public system has long wait times at this stage, even to get genetic testing (recommended due to having multiple cancers) could take up to 6 months. The specialists have told Hannah she can’t wait that long-given her history we don’t want to wait that long! Any funds raised here, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated and used for surgery, treatment and to help throughout her recovery time.

Surgery done 23 July 2022
Hi all
The surgery went very well and Hannah had a week recovering in hospital. She is home as of today but there is still a massive amount of recovery to come. Slow and steady.
We are humbled by everyone's generosity. I will close this page at the end of the month after a final progress update. Thanks for all the support.
