Support the Scott family through this difficult journey.
Ohakea, Manawatu-Wanganui
In the early hours of Friday 4th November, a perfectly healthy, Carrie, woke with a pain in her neck. Stretching to relieve the tension, she heard a pop in her neck followed by a rush of pain. Immediately, Carrie lost all feeling from her chest down. Carrie was rushed to hospital, where doctors determined she ruptured a disc in her spine. Carrie was then flown to Christchurch where she had surgery. This freak accident has caused severe damage to her spinal cord. The current prognosis is that feeling may never return to Carrie's limbs, leaving her wheelchair bound. Carrie will soon be starting 6 months of rehabilitation in Christchurch in hopes of regaining any movement or feeling. Knowing Carrie and her determination, she will do everything in her power to beat this prognosis.
Carrie is married to Ohakea NZDF firefighter, Lewis. Together, they share three beautiful children: Scarlett - 6, Emmy - 3 and Finley - 9 months. One of Carrie's greatest joys is being a mother. Her rehabilitation means she is now separated from her young family and will only see them intermittently throughout the foreseeable future. As you can imagine, this nightmare has completely thrown their world upside down causing heartache, disbelief and uncertainty.
Carrie is one of the most kind, caring, selfless and helpful friends anyone could ask for. We are asking for you to make a generous donation to support this deserving family with the unexpected expenses that will come during this difficult journey.
Carrie is not just a friend to me; she is my family away from family. Carrie has always gone above and beyond to support me. Now it is my turn to support her.
Funds raised will be used for all upcoming costs and towards travel; in order to reunite Carrie's family and she undergoes this long and difficult journey.
Carrie’s Update #1 4 December 2022
It has been one month since my accident. I am currently in the Burwood Spinal Rehabilitation Unit doing Occupational and Physio Therapy twice a day. I have use of my arms and I’m slowly re-gaining use of my hands. My journey so far has been a mixture of highs and lows. Some days are tougher than others. I take each day as an opportunity to push myself and my body to get as far as I possibly can. There is a long, hard road in front of me but it’s one I’m going to take with everything I have. My family are here with me for the time being; they are a form of my therapy. I want to thank everybody who have thought about us and have donated. There are no words to express our gratitude. I will post updates on here throughout my journey.
Love,
Carrie
