Carolyn's Cancer and Hope's Healing
Canterbury
In March 2019, while teaching 5-year-old children in Abu Dhabi, I was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer with extensive spread to my bones in my torso, and liver. After receiving treatment in Abu Dhabi, I returned to New Zealand to heal. I had been teaching, however in June 2021 I fractured my hip while in the classroom, and shortly afterwards we discovered the liver tumors were spreading.
I decided to leave my job I loved, and to focus on healing. I moved to Christchurch to be closer to my sons. This has proven to be an expensive time as I am now living on the supported living benefit. This benefit covers all my essentials; however, it does not leave enough money for all my treatments. Going forward, I would really like to have a PET scan, as this is the most concise tool for showing exactly where the cancer is. This treatment is not publicly funded and can cost upwards of $3000. My alternative treatments (miseltoe injections and Cerussit) cost around $500 a month.
I had been funding this on my credit card since returning to New Zealand. This was until Hope, my faithful companion, had to go to the emergency vets last week. She had emergency surgery and spent multiple nights at the vet. The bills for this are astronomical. My credit card is maxed out. Ongoing spending is now a choice between my treatment and Hope’s.
I am creating this givealittle page to help me through this tough time, so any donations you can provide, big or small, would be greatly appreciated.
Cancer treatments for myself, and vet bills for my dog Hope. Also general expenses in our day to day life.
Finally an update, it's well overdue 27 November 2022
Hi everyone, this update is a long time coming. I have good and bad news. I have waited to update, hoping I would have all good news. But as the weeks tick by I've decided I need to do the update now.
Good news is that Hope is 120% better. She is totally healed and back to her incredibly cheeky, energetic self. It is such a relief and joy every day to see her so happy.
Bad news is that my tumour markers are continuing to rise. For me this has always meant that the cancer is spreading somewhere. My Dr has ordered new scans over the next 2 weeks to ascertain what is happening. It also means that the medication I'm on is not holding the cancer back.
Now that is Hope is better I'm able to focus on my healing again. I've found an acupuncturist who is very good, I'm doing more supplements and changing up the ones I have always taken, I'm continuing with miseltoe and using my ozone machine alot as well. My shoulder blade fracture is alot better but still healing. I'm really hoping to get away in my van, Faith, this summer for some adventures with Hope.
Thank you for all the support over the last few months. Thank also for the continued support from all of you. It helps so much even if you just shared this page for me.
Lot of love and light Carolyn
