Carter needs his Mum, Dad and big brother Riley, to be at his side while he undergoes his ongoing medical treatment

Helping my best friend and her family, as they have to take frequent unpaid leave from work for hospital care for their son Carter.

Cromwell, Otago

Carter Blake Davis was born on the 4th of March 2022 to my best friend Aimee and her husband Reade, and his older brother Riley, aged two.

When Carter was 3 months old, he began having seizures. He was diagnosed with epilepsy, exactly which kind is still unknown.

Carter began medication, which in the beginning seemed to help with his daily seizure activity. He underwent an EEG (Electroencephalography) in October 2022 which showed seizure activity and normal background brain activity. Carter had a repeat EEG in January of 2023 which showed non stop seizure activity as well as significantly impaired background brain activity which means he now has severe Global Developmental Delay.

In January 2023 a new medication protocol was started to stop seizures, which caused a major set back in the progress Carter was making and also caused him to stop normal bodily functions, resulting in him now being fed via a Nasogastric tube.

In March 2023 Carter contracted Covid, which made seizures spike to over a dozen a day. He has now begun to have significantly impaired breathing and can stop breathing completely during these seizures.

In the past 10 weeks, Carter has been admitted to hospital 5 times, totalling 6 weeks of hospital care and counting. He is on a strict Ketogenic diet, as with 2 failed medications the chances of a 3rd working drop to 12% and Keto is the last hope.

Aimee recently opened her own Hair Salon and Reade is a Registered Electrician in Cromwell, the hospital is in Dunedin

Use of funds

Medical equipment, living costs during unpaid leave from work, as well as travel costs. This will lessen Aimee and Reades everyday stresses, so they can totally absorb all the medical interventions that will give Carter the best step forward in life.

From Aimee & Reade 🤍  28 August 2023

It is with the most crushing heartbreak that we announce the passing of our beautiful Carter.

At 3:11am, 28th August, aged 17 months, Carter passed peacefully away in our arms.

He fought for so long but his wee body was so tired and he couldn’t hold on any longer.

Please respect that this is a horrific time for us and we are very likely to not respond to messages.

He’s now living in the stars with his beloved Grandad keeping him safe 🤍

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
