Our AED (heart defibrillator i.e. machine that saves you if you have a heart attack) needs new pads!

The pads that hold the electrodes to a patients chest have to be replaced when used & every two years regardless.

When we got the AED's we raided just enough for the cabinets for Aranui school and at the Rangiora Library so we're now asking people who love Castlecliff to help up replace the pads & have a bit of cash in reserve so we can replace pads when an AED gets used.

Each set costs us about $140, an AED service is $300 and new batteries about the same...

The most recent AED use was Tuesday 13 August when a customer at the hairdresser felt unwell and needed to be transported to hospital by ambulance - although the AED didn't have to be activated having it there was a great reassurance to both the lady who was unwell and the people helping her that if she got worse the AED was right beside her ready to diagnose and address any heart issues.

Being involved with an ambulance callout today having the AED with us was a bloody GodSend - with the patient drifting away from consciousness to know we could attach the AED and have it help St Johns staff diagnose and instruct us (and restart a heart if needed) turned us from bystanders to (potential lifesavers) and emplasised how damn important these AED's are!
