Cat needs all of his teeth removed due to unexpected autoimmune disease
Auckland
Hey everyone,
Unfortunately at our last vet check up we were told our baby Hugo would need a pretty serious surgery and would need to have all of his teeth removed due to an autoimmune disease called Feline Chronic Gingivostomatitis (FCGS). FCGS affects about 0.7-4% of cats. It is a very painful, often debilitating, chronic condition resulting from severe inflammation of the mouth tissue. This also means he will need wet food for the rest of his life to be able to live comfortably.
In Hugo’s case, his body is seeing his teeth as a foreign body and it’s trying its best to attack them, this means he is extremely uncomfortable, especially when he eats.
We’re trying to get him in for surgery asap so he can finally feel relieved, he’s been living with this condition for 2 years unbeknown to us. Anything helps and it’s one step closer to helping our baby begin his road to recovery and to be (hopefully) fully comfortable. Unfortunately we won’t know how extensive the damage is until he’s in surgery.
All money is to go towards his surgery and the goal is set at what the surgery is going to cost. If we manage to go over the goal all money will go towards his long term recovery, his surgery is just the first step to recovery.
