Anything will be appreciated to help relieve financial stress on this family during this hard time
Christchurch, Canterbury
Chance is an 11 year old boy who has been diagnosed with LCH Langerhans cell hystiocytosis .
This is a rare condition that doctors are unable to establish wether it’s actually a cancer or a cancer like disease either way this poor little man is going to be going through rounds of chemotherapy and aggressive steroids. It’s unknown how his body will react to the treatment. Currently his T11 in his spine has multiple fractures caused from his condition and is essentially broken (which after almost a year of being back and forward to the doctor they sort a second opinion and this is how the family come to find out about his condition) chance has been hospitalised multiple times so far just with MRIs, Tests, Biopsy of both his spine and his pelvis and sickness due to his weakened immune system.
MRIs have confirmed his LCH has attacked his T11 vertebrae, His S2 vertebrae, His lower right to ribs and has spread to his pelvis where he has 5 lesions in various places. Due to his long stays in hospital, the time both his mother and grandmother have had to take off work has added extra financial pressure to an already stressful situation not to mention that chance won’t eat the hospital food which is just another expense. Due to Chances condition and the places in his body it’s affected he can no longer play any sport which is a complete deviation to this extremely sporty family.
Family friend
Funds will be used to support the family during this period as both mother and grandmother are self employed, take care of Chance, get him anything he needs during his treatment which includes a tutor as he has been having to have a lot of time off school
Chance’s Update 23 July 2025
Heavy heart today we got our MRI results back and although his lesions haven't spread anymore (which is good news) they have only had a VERY slight improvement, we were hoping for more of an improvement so that he could begin to space out his chemotherapy treatments unfortunately this is not the case. Chance will continue with a second round of weekly chemotherapy treatments & more steroids, followed by another MRI down the track.
Unfortunately this means he will still not be able to return to school & will be starting to attended the health school for two hours a week so he doesn't fall to far behind. We love and appreciate our village and all the support we have surrounding us
