TACA is reaching out to its local community to assist with fundraising for a quality gas BBQ for Baigent Reserve on the Kina Peninsula.
Nelson / Tasman
Late in 2019 Tasman District Council (TDC) pledged to assist the Tasman Area Community Association (TACA) in obtaining a quality gas BBQ for Baigent Reserve. However, budget cuts due to its Covid-19 response mean TDC is no longer able to give financial assistance.
Back in 2013 TACA in conjunction with TDC was successful in tendering for the purchase of 11 hectares of land at the end of the Kina Peninsula from the former owner, Carter Holt Harvey. The land known as LEH Baigent Reserve was original preserved for over 80 years through a covenant in the public domain and had been enjoyed by many thousands of people for picnics, BBQs and various water sports.
TACA is now in the process of enhancing the reserve with plantings to provide shade and amenity value and wish to replace the old wood-fired BBQs to reduce the fire hazard with a modern maintenance free commercial BBQ.
We therefore need the assistance of our community to reach this goal in time for this summer. This would provide a basis for future events we are planning to bring our close-knit community together.
The Tasman Area Community Association is a volunteer organisation that aims to:
• Give Tasman/Kina a collective voice for dealing with large issues & liaise with Tasman District Council
• Work with the community to make it a better place to live and work
TACA has $3200 set aside towards purchase & installation but needs another $4500. If there is any surplus, it will go towards an identical gas BBQ for Tasman Reserve near Tasman Village.
Invite to new Baigent Reserve BBQ next Saturday 16 May 2021
As a fundraising donor for our new Baigent BBQ, we wanted to be sure that you got the invite to the launch next Saturday.
We are delighted to invite you to the launch of our brand new BBQ at Baigent Reserve on Saturday 22 May at midday (postponed if wet).
Following the fundraising campaign in July last year to purchase the BBQ through a Melbourne based manufacturer, the unit finally landed in Tasman in December 2020.
Recently with Council and Nelmac’s help we have built a shelter for the BBQ at the Baigent memorial and are now ready for the launch.
We will supply sausages, slow cooked onions, bread & tomato sauce, so please bring whatever you may wish to drink.
If you wish to join us, please email chair@tasmancommunity.org.nz to advise the number of adults and children, so we can adequately cater for the event.
Best regards
