COVID-19 Response: Delta Trust FoodBank Appeal

Since 1995 Delta Trust has been providing a Food Bank service to the low income and disadvantaged individuals and families of Richmond (Christchurch) and surrounding suburbs. Each year we provide over 1200 instances of food access and budgeting support to an estimated 300+ people and families. Without our help, these families would have to endure periods of time where they couldn't afford to put food on their tables.

Currently we have 1025 families active in our Food Bank database, and during the times they require our assistance, they can receive up to one food parcel per month. In an average week we provide approximately 30 food parcels – though need is especially high at the moment and we are expecting that due to the COVID-19 Lockdown, demand will increase substantially.

We have two different sized food parcels that feed either an individual or a family for 2-3 days. We rely on donations of food to keep our costs down, but we still need to purchase mince and common food items like cereal, spaghetti, crackers, biscuits, pasta, tinned fish etc when the shelves run bare. We are humbly asking for monetary contributions towards the food parcels, and the costs of running the FoodBank. Your dollars will not only fill someone's tummy, but also bring them dignity and peace of mind during this difficult time.

The cost of a food parcel is $25 (individual) and $55 (family) not including any of our running costs. We anticipate needing parcels for an additional 10 families and 5 individuals each week over and above what our current funding covers. This would equate to $675 each week and we predict this need will continue for at least the next 8 weeks = our fundraising target of $5,400.
