'A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal' - Steve Maraboli

On the 22nd of March 2020 the 1.3 billion people of India went into lockdown in an attempt to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and control the spread of the virus. This lockdown has led to millions of daily wage earners in India without support for their families and migrant workers stranded in cities separated from their loved ones. We are seeing a secondary humanitarian crisis unfold as millions who struggle to survive under normal circumstances face impossible circumstances in their immediate future.
"Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach." - Clarissa Pinkola Estés
One such community facing this hardship that is 'within reach' is the local area surrounding Ebenezer Community School in Delhi... its staff, its students and their families. This is a community that we (MDIS) are directly connected with, and that we can help in a very real way.
THE NEED
1. Teachers - NZ$14,000 - this will cover teacher salaries for 10 staff for 3 months ($445/teacher/month)
2. Students - NZ$20,000 - Relief Kits for 200 families for 1 month ($100/family) | kits include - rice, flour, dal, dried beans, sugar, oil, soya, salt, spices, and hygiene products
Ebenezer Community School serves the poor community in Chattarpur (a suburb of Delhi). It was started by a local church who saw the need for intervention in primary education in this vulnerable community. Metro Delhi International School has supported Ebenezer for many years in teacher training, finances, educational resources, furniture, IT infrastructure, english language support, legal compliances, volunteers, special school events, etc.
This community is normally self sustaining. If we can support this community through this crisis and get them back on their feet, then they will be able to continue taking care of themselves and each other. School is projected to begin in July, so April, May, and June are the critical months. This project is NOT a bottomless pit of dependence on aid for continued survival. It is a short term project during an extreme event. Your support will go a long way.
Be kind.
I am the Principal of Metro Delhi International School in India. Ebenezer is our sister school whom we have supported for many years with professional development, administrative support, legal services, finances, educational materials, school events, etc.
The funds will be used for:
1. teacher salaries for 3 months
2. relief packages (1 month supply of food and educational activities) for Ebenezer Community School's students and their families.
Final Distribution (for now) 24 July 2020
Huge THANK YOU to all that have donated to this cause... you have made a significant difference to the suffering on this community. Thank you for stretching out your hand to those within reach.
The Ebenezer and MDIS team just finished the 3rd distribution of relief packages and school stationary supplies to the community.
India's cases continue to rise exponentially. Please continue to hold this community up in prayer and keep them in your thoughts as they face this ongoing crisis.
