Cursed Cars and Broken Hearts
Taranaki
We thought we were buying freedom and independence — turns out we bought *lemons with a side of financial heartbreak.*
Both cars came with clean AA reports. We did our due diligence, asked the right questions, and did everything we could to make smart, safe choices. But sometimes, even when you do everything right… things still fall apart.
One daughter’s car blew a hole in the engine block just six months after buying it. The other got her first car on a Saturday — by Monday it wouldn’t start. Now it needs a new crank, a manifold, and soon, a timing chain. It's devastating.
These cars weren’t just for convenience — both my girls need them to get to work. One is on night shifts at the hospital saving lives, the other is at the gas station keeping everyone caffeinated *so they don’t end up in hospital!*
This has taken a huge financial and emotional toll on all of us. We’re raising funds to help cover the repair or replacement costs, and hopefully break this bizarre car curse we seem to be stuck under.
Every little bit helps, and we’re so grateful for any support. Thank you from the bottom of our broken hearts ❤️ (and busted engines).
If we met the target we will start fresh with new wheels they can share, if not we will patch repair and drive and save.
Two Lemons, $500, and a Whole Lot of Determination 🍋🚗 8 August 2025
Well… the lemons have officially left the building. We sold both cars for scrap and only got $500 for the pair. Ouch.
The mechanic has been paid from our own pockets (not the fundraiser money), and between your amazing donations, the scrap sale, and what we’ve been able to save, we now have $1,685 in the kitty for a reliable replacement car.
We’ve set up alerts so we can pounce the moment a decent, affordable car comes on the market. But we still need to raise more — and saving is tough when Uber keeps eating the budget.
If you can, please check between the couch cushions or in that old jacket pocket for spare change. Every little bit gets us closer to safe, reliable wheels. ❤️
We know there are many worthy causes out there, and if you can’t contribute, we completely understand — sharing this helps just as much.
Thank you! A limerick just for you - There once was a scholar, quite drained, Whose thesis had barely been framed. She drank bean juice all day To keep deadline dismay — Now her thoughts are just highly caffein’d!
Creative and kind in all that you do Rays of inspiration always shine through You lift others up with your generous heart Spreading joy and colour through your art Thank you for all the help that you give A presence so bright, you inspire us to create and forgive! Lively in spirit, we're grateful to you Crystal, you're truly a dream come true!
Yes! I wish we had better public transport here, but with the hours they work public transport won't help them anyway
Thank you
