To collect donations for Amphan cyclone relief operations in Eastern India.
International
My hometown Kolkata and adjoining coastal areas of the state of West Bengal as well as Odisha have been devastated by Amphan, the worst cyclone that India has seen since 1737. And all this amidst the Covid lockdown making things even more difficult. There’s been substantial loss of lives, damage to property and of course huge financial loss which are having a crippling effect. And of course the worst hit are the poor.
At a time like this, every little bit counts and I realise that while many of us would like to help, it’s not very easy to remit money to the relief organisations in India from overseas, particularly if they are small amounts and if one is unsure about which organisations are authentic.
Realising this, I have decided to do my bit by setting up this page for my friends and acquaintances in New Zealand and across the world who would like to help but don’t quite know how.
I take personal responsibility for ensuring that the funds raised via this page are remitted bia electronic fund transfer to authentic organisations providing relief to those affected by the cyclone like the West Bengal Chief Ministers Relief Fund and Ramkrishna Mission.
A Kiwi citizen, I’m originally from Kolkata, India. My hometown and adjoining areas have been devastated by the worst cyclone in centuries whilst in lockdown causing deaths and severe financial loss.
Amphan cyclone relief in West Bengal and Odisha, India - like the West Bengal Chief Ministers Relief Fund and Ramkrishna Mission.
$800 transferred to West Bengal State Disaster Management Authority for cyclone relief 10 June 2020
Hi all,
I’m pleased to inform you that I have now sent the first instalment of the donations I have received via this page thanks to Givealittle’s prompt processing of my early payment request.
I would like to thank each one of you for your contribution and request you to share this page amongst your networks.
The damage is great and is compounded by the rising number of Covid cases in the state.
My earnest appeal to all kind New Zealanders - we are privileged to be in New Zealand, let’s now help those less fortunate because the world is one family after all.
Here is a link to the Disaster Management Authority’s website if you would like to see the work they’re doing.
