WANTING TO HELP DAN AND HIS YOUNG FAMILY HAVE THE CHANCE AT LIVING A HEALTHY AND HAPPY LIFE AS WE HAVE!
Waihi Beach, Bay Of Plenty
Dan is an old friend and work colleague whom we have great respect and admiration for. He has made the decision to have Brain Surgery as outlined below, after a Parkinson’s diagnosis which was not what he saw coming at the age of 34 and he hopes that it will buy him quality family time.
Dan, an incredibly adventurous, creative and active family man, has not let the diagnosis affect his passion for a positive and full life or determine too much of what he is able to achieve. This progressive disease has made things slowly but surely harder and harder over the last 9 years. Dan has two beautiful young sons, soon to be two and four, with partner Daisy, and recently made the big move from Auckland to Waihi Beach to embrace a slower paced, healthier life.
This little family are very hopeful for what this surgery will bring for Dan and their future. It will be a long road to recovery ahead, physically and financially over the next few months, but excitement for the adventures they might have. Dan will undergo this 5-hour procedure while conscious, next week.
DEEP BRAIN STIMULATION (DBS) is a medical procedure that involves a mild electrical current delivered to a specific part of your brain. The electricity in that current stimulates the brain cells in that area, which can help several conditions. The current reaches your brain through one or more wires attached to a small device implanted underneath your skin near your collarbone.

DANS RECOVERY UPDATE 9 February 2024
Kia ora whanau and friends
Thank you to everyone for your constant support throughout my journey, I feel blessed. As I approach the ten-month mark, I can confidently say its been roller coaster ride. There have been moments of joy, such as reading to my kids, riding my bike again, and swimming in ocean. It's been great catching up with old/new friends and diving back into my art projects.
However, there have also been frustrating moments, particularly with my difficulty communicating with my family and the ongoing challenges with my speed, strength, and balance. I miss surfing, photography, my work, and the familiar routines of my life before my surgery.
Nevertheless, I am determined to keep pushing forward and working hard with my therapy team to achieve the best possible results for my family and myself. I want to express my gratitude to my beautiful partner, Daisy, whose unwavering love and support have kept me going through it all.
Sending love and light to all of you.❤️
Dan
