Help raise some money for Di to give her some financial support following chemo treatment and time off work.
Auckland
Di McKenzie - Our Mum, Aunty, Sister, teacher, Head Teacher, Colleague, friend and neighbour had surprising news in Dec 2016 that she had colon cancer, and there started her brave battle to kick this cancer in the butt. She has since undergone a successful surgery and in January 2017 she started a 6 month course of chemotherapy.
Di has been head teacher at Browns Bay Taiaotea Kindergarten for the past 10 years, she is unable to work whilst undergoing treatment, this adds financial pressure for Di.
Our wish is to raise some money for Di to help her out financially whilst she isn't working and therefore eliviate some stress to ensure her course of treatment is as positive and stress free as it can be.
I'm setting up this page because whānau, close colleagues, friends and parents of our community have been asking for ways in which they can help Di out.
I have Di's permission to raise funds and she is very appreciative and overwhelmed at the amount of support people are offering. Thank you on her behalf.
Di is living with friends throughout her treatment and when recovered she will use the funds to re-establish herself after treatment.
Message from Di 10 April 2017
"My dear friends, I have at last got to the point of being able to put some words together to let you all know my progress. But first I need to say a heartfelt Thank You for your generosity. It's a bit overwhelming for me but my sincere thanks to you all. I went right to the brink with an adverse reaction that has been the biggest challenge of my life. But the good news is that I am now on the road to recovery...from needing total care and support of the multidisciplinary looking after me I am now heading towards self care and management in tiny steps. The simple things such as self care, walking with a frame, eating and drinking - well grazing really - are now daily activities for me. The plan is to transition to a rehabilitation ward to build strength, stamina, self management and confidence with ADL 'activities of daily living'. It is SO good to be this distance away from each day being precarious. My goal is to find my va va voom again so I can be an active GG - a Groovy Granny - for my first grandchild due in early June. Thank you to everybody for all the prayers, cards, texts and donations. My gratitude cannot be expressed deeply enough. Much Love Di" (10/4/17)
