Dindo - a fight for life and livelihood

Help Dindo fight Leukemia

Stokes Valley, Lower Hutt

Meet Dindo Bueno, a fighter in the truest sense.

Dindo moved to New Zealand in May 2023, holding a two-year work visa as a maintenance fitter.

He was admitted at Auckland Hospital in July 2024 and was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). A life-threatening illness that has placed an unimaginable strain on his life. Without immediate and continuous treatment, the disease can progress rapidly. He will require regular blood tests, ongoing oral therapy (Imatinib, Allopurinol, and Atorvastatin), and intermittent appointments with the hematology service.

Dindo was forced to return to work prematurely and he is worried about losing his job. This has taken a toll on his health.

Dindo has one year left with his work visa. He is at risk of redundancy from his job due to his illness further complicating his already difficult situation when he gets repatriated.

If Dindo loses his job, he not only loses his income but also his right to stay in New Zealand and his eligibility for free treatment.

Dindo needs urgent financial support to help cover the medication, and basic needs (rent and food) and support his family in the Philippines.

Your donation can make a significant difference in Dindo’s life and help us spread Dindo's story.

Together, we can give Dindo the strength and resources to overcome this challenge.

Thank you for your compassion and generosity.

Dindo is a member of our Kabalikat group, a community of individuals and their families who have navigated the challenging journey of cancer.

Use of funds

Regardless of the amount raised, the money will be spent to cover his lifetime oral medication therapy(Imatinib, Allopurinol, and Atorvastatin), and to help Dindo and his family, if he gets repatriated back to the Philippines.

Thank you  31 July 2025

As we near the close of our fundraising efforts, we want to take a moment to extend our deepest gratitude for your generosity, kindness, and unwavering support. Because of you, this campaign was more than just a fundraiser — it became a lifeline.

Thanks to your donations, Dindo received the financial support he needed in his ongoing fight against leukemia. Your support helped cover essential treatments, check-ups, medications, and day-to-day needs that brought relief and hope during the most challenging moments of his journey.

Dindo has been deeply moved by the outpouring of love from people — many of whom he has never met. Your compassion gave him not just financial support, but emotional strength to keep fighting.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your kindness made a real impact, and it will never be forgotten. God bless you all.
