A place for everyone to show there love and support for DJ and his family while he battles Leukaemia
Auckland
This is our brave little man DJ and he has just turned 9. DJ was an energetic, happy boy who had an inquisitive mind and loved to know how things worked. He loves school, his family and friends and loves fishing. On the 28 October 2016 DJ was unwell with fevers and his mum, Megan, took him to the doctors. Later that night, she got a call to say he was to be taken immediately to Starship Hospital. DJ was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) High Risk and treatment was started immediately. His life now consists of chemotherapy, blood and platelet transfusions, bone marrow biopsy and numerous other procedures. He has been in hospital for five weeks now and has had complications with infections and huge weight loss. Through all of this he is still a fighter and his inquisitive mind has helped him cope with the reality of his condition. Returning to school is not an option for a long while. His mum, Megan, stays with him at the hospital and her two older sons have now made it their responsibility to care for their 4 other younger siblings. Two of these have Type 1 Diabetes requiring constant supervision and insulin medication, the younger one is 7 years old. At times the older boys take over a shift at the hospital so their mum can come home and spend time with the other children.
DJ’s plan of care at the moment is day by day but the intended length of treatment is approximately 3 years 8 months so they have a long road ahead of them. DJ’s mum, Megan, is always putting others first and volunteering herself for different things in the community and never asks for anything in return. She has a hard road ahead trying to care for DJ and making sure her other children are taken care of, in particular, the children with Type 1 Diabetes. We would like to do everything we can to help ease the burden the family have in their journey and help give back something to a person who is always giving to others. Funds would help go a long way in the costs of travelling to and from hospital, day to day living costs both at home and hospital, caring for DJ and making life a bit easier with extra help being brought in to assist the children at home.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for all your support. Much love!
Just wanted to do something to help support DJ, Megan and the family through this difficult time and the long road ahead.
