Help us raise $40,000 towards an adventure park at Dogwatch that will give our shelter dogs a better life until they find their best life!
Canterbury
In 2022, Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust marks 40 years of rescuing and rehoming dogs in need. We’ve saved thousands of dogs since 1982 and we intend to continue doing this work for as long as dogs need us.
To mark our 40th year, we’re aiming to raise $40,000 between now and 31 December 2022. This fundraising appeal will kickstart a major redevelopment of our Christchurch facilities which will include brand new accommodation for the dogs and a new visitor centre complete with indoor space for education seminars and puppy socialisation classes.
The first project to get underway is an interactive, experiential dog adventure park designed to enhance the wellbeing of our dogs. Shelter life is challenging for many dogs, especially those who come to us with a history of neglect, mistreatment or minimal exposure to the world. Many of our dogs require months of rehabilitation to address behavioural issues before they’re ready for adoption. That means for some dogs, it’s a long time before they’re finally in a calm, forever home with regular routines and a family of their own.
So, to make daily life better for our dogs while they’re with us, we’re creating a dedicated space that introduces them to new and enriching sights, sounds, smells and experiences which they can explore at their own pace.
In the Adventure Park, our dogs will be able to:
• Run and climb over grassy hillocks
• Wander through tunnels, up stairs, along beams, down ramps and through hoops
• Paddle in a shallow pool
• Play with water spouts and sprinklers
• Dig in the sand pit
• Explore paths and plants
• Experience a wide variety of textures underfoot
• Give their noses a workout in the sniffari
• Clamber over logs and tree stumps
• Relax in the sun or in the shade of a tree
• Listen to wind chimes
• Tug on tethered tugs
• Chase oversize inflatable balls
• Check themselves out in the mirrors
• Find hidden treats
The Adventure Park will give our dogs a better life until they find their best life. By supporting this appeal you’ll contribute to a legacy project that will enhance the wellbeing of Dogwatch dogs for decades to come!
Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust is a registered charity established in 1982. We rescue, retrain and rehome dogs that have been abandoned at pounds throughout Canterbury, or surrendered from private situations. We receive no council or government funding.
