This page is created to raise funds to support 2 year old Dylan's fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Ngaruawahia, Waikato
Dylan is a Ngaruawahia-based, bubbly 2-year-old boy who is blessed with an extra chromosome (Down Syndrome). He is well known within the community for his infectious smile and loving disposition and is always making friends with everyone he meets. Dylan loves his older brother, being outside, dogs, cars and making lots of mess! He is due to become a big brother in January 2022.
In October Dylan was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He was immediately transferred to Starship Hospital in Auckland where he has commenced intensive chemotherapy which will continue for the next 6 months at least with the added complication of increased risk to Dylan of life-threatening infection. Covid-19 has added further barriers by limiting the number of people who can support Dylan's care.
Dylan and his family face a long journey, they are away from their home, the support of friends and family and the circumstances have had a huge impact on their income.
The emotional, physical and financial strain that child cancer imposes is enormous; and so any support given to aid Dylan and his family is tremendously appreciated.
Sarah has been my closest friend for almost 20 years.
Funds raised will be used to support Dylan and his family during his treatment.
Any funds surplus to requirements will be donated to a charitable trust associated with childhood cancer.
Dylan’s Progress 22 November 2021
An update from Sarah:
Dylan has just completed 6 days of chemo for his 2nd round, with a small break in between. This cycle is higher doses, and so the doctors expect him to become quite sick. In the past week he has had pneumonia, rashes, nausea and some vomiting. Although he is still maintaining his appetite - we opted for the nasogastric tube again as its less traumatic for him taking numerous oral meds. He’s now become immune compromised, an expected bodily response to chemo, and will remain in protective isolation for the next few weeks. This is when infections can occur, from something as simple as the natural bacteria on his own little body. We are so glad that we have such a great team of doctors and nurses at Starship taking care of bubba so we feel that we are in safe hands ♥️. We are all feeling pretty exhausted, so sorry for the slow updates and if I haven’t had a chance to reply to anyone, we’ll get there ♥️
