Supporting Emma and Paul Newlands through what must be the hardest time in their lives.

Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty

Emma and Paul Newlands have gone through the most tragic event of their lives.

Emma and Paul sadly lost their new born baby, Reuben close to 22 hours after his birth. Reuben was born at 2.35pm on the 19th of April via emergency C section in Tauranga hospital.

The journey to conceive Reuben in the first place was a very challenging road for the couple as he was the precious outcome of IVF. He was the couples one and only lucky embryo due to severe fertility issues. This means when they choose to try again they have to do another entire round with no guarantees. Each round of IVF varies in cost depending on the fertility problem, for Paul and Emma they need multiple add ons such as ICSI, AOA and HGC per round. Each round will cost them close to 17,000.

The mental, physical and emotional stress that comes with IVF is just unimaginable - let alone, dealing with the loss of Reuben. Their one miracle.

We would like to support them to be able to take the financial stress away from Emma and Paul if (and when) they are ready to try for a baby again.

Absolutely no pressure, spare what you can, to show we are all supporting them in this ongoing journey.

Little Reuben will never be forgotten and Emma and Paul are enormously proud of their little boy being the true fighter he was.

Please have Emma, Paul and Reuben in your thoughts during this challenging time.

Update from Emma and Paul which can’t fit in the above description box   11 July 2022

To make matters harder on the couple, the hospital has since admitted that Reuben and Emma’s care was negligent for hours. Emma and Paul arrived to hospital at 9 am that day. He was born five and half hours later despite both Emma and Reuben being critical condition. Learning his death could have been prevented is even more catastrophic for them. In New Zealand there is no compensation given to families in their position who have lost a baby due to poor care. Due to Reuben being an IVF baby financial stresses are unfortunately a major concern for the family.
