Eye Care for Africa is a New Zealand registered charity aimed at providing eye care to remote parts of East Africa.
Hastings, Hawke's Bay
Niall completed Te Araroa as a fund-raising drive for Eye Care for Africa. Te Araroa is a 3008km through-hike the length of New Zealand. The main purpose was to raise funds to build a small eye clinic in Shinyanga, a remote part of Northern Tanzania. Shinyanga is hours away from the nearest eye care facility. All monies raised go to the cause with all professionals paying their own way.
Eye Care for Africa was founded in 2017 by Hawkes Bay based Optometrist Niall McCormack. It was formed to provide eye care to some of the most marginalised groups in the countries of Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya, currently concentrating on Tanzania.
Our goal is to build a small eye clinic in Shinyanga, Northern Tanzania.

On my fund-raising walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats, I’ve managed to reach Fort William now before embarking on the Great Glen Way and then the John O’Groats trail.
