Help replace our ovens that were damaged in a fire.
Auckland
A slow burn between our ovens turned into a big problem today, and thanks to the quick observation of our volunteers and a helping hand from emergency fire services, no one was injured. Unfortunately, we now need a completely new set up for ovens and kitchen equipment. The estimates for the two ovens are over $20,000 which is a lot for a charity of our size. We'll also need help with the installation and removal.
The kitchen is the heart of the home, and that's very true for us at Fair Food. Our kai tables are an incredible gathering place for people who might otherwise never cross paths. The friendships formed over kai burn stronger than any fire, and we're hoping our community will come to our rescue in this moment of need.
We cook more than 500 nutritious hot meals from scratch each week, and not having ovens will slow us down considerably at a time when our help is needed more than ever.
Poverty builds incredible resilience, so will continue to distribute fresh food every day while we replace the damaged kitchen equipment.
Come have a cup of soup or curry from the slow cooker and please donate if you're able.
Fair Food brings community together to feed people not landfill. We rescue good food from growers, manufacturers and retailers and share it free of charge with people who struggle to put food on the table. We share enough fresh kai for 40,000 meals a week!
We will get kitchen equipment: ovens, racks, benchtop, and fit out. All funds will be used in the kitchen to feed our community who would go hungry. We are not sure how much insurance will cover, as the kitchen was donated, but we are working through that.
We're cooking! 17 July 2025
Thank you to all of you incredible folks who pitched in to get us back in gear. We have two beautiful commercial ovens and are back to making hundreds of hot meals a day for whānau who need it. This was an extremely tough time, but your generosity kept us going.
Please come gather around our kai tables anytime you're in the neighbourhood.
Thank you so so much for your generous donation.
