My parents had their savings & dream home stolen. My goal is to make their unit warm and 'elderly friendly'. Are you able to help?
Canterbury
Since our story aired on Fair Go an unexpected offer of help from a big hearted Cantabrian, Lyall Senior, has given Yvonne and Iain fresh hope, and me a new mission.
My goal, with Lyall's help and project management, is to update my parent's unit into a home where they can be comfortable and have some peace after what they have been through. The first step is to install a heat pump to make it easier to keep warm through the winter, and a rejig of the bathroom to make it much safer and more 'elderly friendly'.
Can you help? If anyone is able to donate items or trade services I would love to hear from you: sonja.wilkinson@y7mail.com All donations to this page will go towards providing Yvonne and Iain with a safe and warm home.
I am grateful to Gill and the Fair Go team and to the viewers who encouraged me to set up a Give A Little page, and you can view our story here:
Like so many others, my parents lost their home of 42 years due to the Christchurch earthquakes. After a lengthy battle with their insurance company, Iain and Yvonne finally managed to settle and were excited to rebuild their dream home on the same site.
They entrusted their rebuild to a man who had gained their complete trust over many months of successfully negotiating with the insurers on their behalf.
Shatteringly, after receiving payment to complete the build in full, with only the foundations and the wall panels in place, his business was placed into liquidation and he fled back to the UK.
He left them with an unfinished build and a loss of $500,000.00 and no hope of recovering the money paid.
Thank you for your kindness and support, we are very grateful. The Wilkinson Family

Unexpected help and new goal - are you able to help? 15 September 2020
Hello,
Since our story aired on Fair Go an unexpected offer of help from a big hearted Cantabrian, Lyall Senior, has given Yvonne and Iain fresh hope, and me a new mission.
My goal, with Lyall's help and project management, is to update my parent's unit into a home where they can be comfortable and have some peace after what they have been through over the last 10 years.
The first step is to install a heat pump to make it easier to keep warm through the winter, and a rejig of the bathroom to make it much safer.
If you, or anyone you know, would be able to help with either donated items or trade services, I would love to hear from you: sonja.wilkinson@y7mail.com
Thank you once again for your kind support of Iain and Yvonne.
Best regards, Sonja
