Fighting for life, one breath at a time

Standing with Josh and his family as he fights for recovery after a sudden asthma attack.

Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui

On the 6th of January, our lives changed in an instant when Josh suffered a massive asthma attack and was rushed to ICU in Palmerston North. As his condition worsened, he was flown to Auckland and placed on an ECMO machine to support his life.

This journey has been terrifying and heartbreaking for our family. Being away from home, alongside medical uncertainty and time off work, has taken a heavy financial toll during an already overwhelming time.

We are asking for support to help ease the burden so we can focus on what truly matters — being there for Josh as he continues to fight

To protect Josh’s privacy and dignity, we’ve chosen not to share photos of him during this time. Thank you for understanding and respecting this decision.

Damien Foote's involvement (page creator)

I am Josh’s brother and am organising this Givealittle page to support him and our family during his critical illness.

Use of funds

Any funds raised will go towards travel, accommodation, bills, and basic living costs while Josh remains critically unwell, helping ease the financial pressure on our family during this incredibly difficult time.

Josh update 🤍  26 January 2026

Josh was discharged from hospital on the 22nd of January, which we are incredibly grateful for. Being home has been a big and positive step, but it has also come with its own challenges.

Since returning home, we’ve been slowly trying to settle into a new “normal” and find a routine that works for us. Josh is still very weak after everything his body has been through, so each day is about allowing him to move at his own pace and focus on rest and recovery. Even the smallest tasks take a lot of energy right now.

Recovery is ongoing and will take time, patience, and support. We cannot thank everyone enough for the kindness, donations, messages, and shares. The support through this page has helped ease so much stress during an incredibly tough period for our family.

Thank you for standing by Josh as he continues this journey — it truly means more than we can say 🤍

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
