FIP is a known killer... until now...

FIP is a known killer... until now... FIP treatment in NZ is expensive... so far Donna's treatment has hit $4000... we need help...

Hawera, Taranaki

So my wee Donna cat who's had a really hard start to life, was found with her Mum who had pyometra, and 6 other very sick siblings. We lost 2 kittens with severe cat flu. The other 5 including Donna responded well to antibiotics and since then 4 have found there long term home.

Unfortunately Donna has constantly suffered, sniffles, recurring flu like symptoms.

Just a few weeks ago she started wobbling. We had just had more bloods run and her protein levels are extremely high which our vets say is consistent with neurological FIP (especially now she's unsteady on her feet). Right now the vets are treating another cat with FIP. So have begun treating Donna too.

FIP has been untreatable for years until now, this new drug does wonders... but is super expensive 😞

About us

Taranaki Animal Protection Trust helps the abandoned, stray, unwanted cats and kittens of Taranaki.

Use of funds

FIP treatment here in NZ is hugely expensive because it's a very uncommon and a new treatment regime. Funds will go directly towards Donna's vet care. If we get extra will donate to other FIP kitties who's families are struggling.

Well The Worst Happened...   8 October 2022

Posted by: The Catopia Cat Sanctuary

Unfortunately 2 weeks ago Donna relapsed.

Poor wee Donna began having seizures and was feeling unwell again. To say I am devastated is an understatement. This poor wee girl has been though it all. Her eyesight has also been affected this time around.

We have been fortunate enough to be in contact with a wonderful researcher in Australia who has dedicated his life to helping kitties with FIP. He has found a new drug that we are luckily enough to be able to get here. The cost is $20 per pill and it lasts 5 days (about), given in 0.25mg amounts twice a day. I have had to buy some very small scales and do a measure every morning and night and mix with dine treats.

Since being on the new treatment, her seizures have stopped and shes gaining weight really well.

Still a big setback as now it won't be until after the New Year until we know for sure if she has kicked this nasty ailment in the ass...
