We invite past and present families, alumni, teachers, and friends of Fossil Bay to help us begin the yurt’s next chapter.
Waiheke Island, Auckland
For over a decade, the Fossil Bay yurt has been a place of stories, songs, play, shelter, rhythm, and connection. Beneath its canvas, children and adults have gathered for Playcircle mornings, celebrations, yoga classes, birthday parties, dinner parties, music lessons, postpartum circles, counselling sessions, improv workshops, story tents, and the everyday rituals that make community life so meaningful. The yurt has held classrooms, community gatherings, creative workshops, and moments of support and connection through all seasons of life. More than just a structure, it has become deeply woven into the life of Fossil Bay and the wider community.
For many families, the yurt holds memories woven deeply into their experience of Fossil Bay and Waiheke Island. It has been a space where friendships formed, imaginations flourished, and children as well as adults felt held in warmth and community.
After many years of much-loved use, the yurt canvas now needs full replacement so it can continue welcoming future generations of children. We are seeking to raise $6,250 through community support, with Fossil Bay contributing the remaining half of the project cost.
We invite past and present families, alumni, teachers, and friends of Fossil Bay to help us begin the yurt’s next chapter.
Every contribution, large or small, helps keep this special place alive for the children who will gather beneath it in the years to come.
Waiheke Island Rudolf Steiner Education Trust is a registered charitable trust, and is the governing body for Fossil Bay School and Kindergarten. All donations above $5 are fully tax deductible.
Funds will go toward replacing the yurt canvas and renewing this much-loved community space so it can continue serving children and families for years to come. If we exceed our target, additional funds will support yurt maintenance and improvements.
