Help Oscar, a 7-year-old Kiwi footballer, represent Barça Academy NZ at a 10-day elite training clinic at Barça’s Ciutat Esportiva in Spain.
Napier, Hawke's Bay
Oscar is a 7-year-old Kiwi footballer who has been selected to represent Barça Academy New Zealand at a 10-day elite training clinic in Spain, training at the home of FC Barcelona.
For a young footballer from New Zealand, this is an incredible opportunity to experience world-class coaching, learn the famous Barça football philosophy, and train alongside young players from around the world.
Oscar loves football and spends as much time as he can playing, training, and learning about the game. Being selected for this clinic is a huge opportunity for him to develop his skills, grow his confidence, and experience football at one of the most famous clubs in the world.
Travelling from New Zealand to Spain is a big journey and the costs involved with flights, accommodation, and the training programme are significant.
We’re raising funds to help cover the travel and training costs so Oscar can make the most of this incredible opportunity.
Any support, big or small, would mean the world to Oscar and our family. We’ll also be sharing updates along the way so everyone who supports Oscar can follow his journey from New Zealand to Barcelona.
Thank you for helping a young Kiwi chase his football dream.
Oscar is my 7-year-old son and I am organising the fundraising and managing the travel arrangements for his Barça Academy training clinic in Spain.
Funds will go towards Flights from New Zealand to Spain, accommodation, and the 10-day Barça Academy training programme. Any additional funds will support Oscar’s continued football development and training.
Ju-jitsu Grading 3 April 2026
On Wednesday, Oscar graded in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and earned his third tip on his grey belt white stripe 🥋
Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Most people see sport as just physical.
But Jiu-Jitsu is different.
It’s like chess under pressure.
Every roll forces kids to think, adapt, stay calm, and solve problems in real time. There’s no hiding. No shortcuts. Just learning how to handle discomfort, stay composed, and keep going when things get tough.
That’s why we love it for Oscar.
Yes, he’s football-obsessed (and always will be ⚽), with futsal right behind it, but what happens outside football is just as important.
Jiu-Jitsu is helping him build:
• Resilience when he’s under pressure
• Confidence through earned progress
• Discipline and respect
• Strategy and decision-making
• The ability to stay calm in uncomfortable situations
These are life skills. Not just sport skills.
And it’s not the only arena he’s stepping into.
Oscar throws himself into everything he can:
Football, futsal, rugby union, rugby league, touch rugby, swimming, jiu-jitsu, and even triathlons when the opportunity comes up.
Why?
Because growth doesn’t come from staying in one lane.
It comes from testing yourself in many.
Every sport adds another layer:
More coordination. More awareness. More toughness. More belief.
This is all part of the journey that’s leading him toward his dream of training at FC Barcelona in December.
