To fund an English teacher at a school in a remote area of Nepal with the aim of giving the children & thus the village more opportunities
International
With a friend, I spent a wonderful couple of days at Shree Shisakhola school and the village in a remote and poor area of Nepal. Despite the most basic facilities everyone had big smiles and were most hospitable and welcomed us into their homes. We wanted to help this little village and after discussions with the headmaster and a group of villagers we agreed to fund an English teacher for two years.
Their English was very rudimentary so by helping the children become more fluent it may give more opportunities to continue their education and better work prospects. This in turn would benefit the village as a whole as their young are better educated and able to bring money into the village. Many of the young boys are destined to become porters and damage their bodies carrying extraordinarily heavy loads.
The two years is almost up and after receiving regular videos and reports from my Nepalese contacts I can see there has been huge progress. Thus I have agreed to provide funding for the English teacher for a further two years.
We are blessed to live in a country that provides us with so many benefits and advantages we take for granted and it is difficult to understand how others are living a life that is a continuous struggle to survive. The Nepalese are wonderful, warm people and I feel privileged to know many I can call friends and to be able to help make their lives more comfortable in some small way.
Please help this cause, a little goes a long way
After vising Nepal a few times and the Shree Shiskhola School I have formed a support group to provide funds for an English teacher. I keep in touch with the teacher and two Nepalese who help with the school
All money raised will be sent to Nepal for the English teacher's salary for two years. Any surplus will be used to provide reading aids and school supplies. If we don't achieve our target all funds raised will still go towards the teacher's salary.
Nepal Fundraising Update 26 May 2020
Thank you for your support to date and I thought I should update you on what has happened with your donations. Days before we went into lockdown, Country Village preschool held a bike a thon which all the children enjoyed and added to our fundraising. Nepal is still under strict lock down so we are holding the funds until schools open again and we will then forward them for the teacher. The majority of Nepalese are facing a very difficult time, being unable to work there is no income and they don't have government support or social services. This years was the big 2020 year of tourism in Nepal and the Covid crisis has hit very hard. We are sending donations (separate to our frundraising) to purchase rice and lentils which are the main food staples. I know there are many, many people in New Zealand needing support at the moment but if you feel you could help a Nepalese family with a small donation it will all add up and be most appreciated.
