Funds for our members!

In 2016 we started a Members Discretionary Fund, to help our members to access resources or undertake experiences that enhance their lives. We have set aside $20,000 each year for this fund, to provide members with the chance to apply for funding to contribute towards opportunities and resources that aren’t covered by government funding.

The response from our members to this initiative is phenomenal, and we know it is making a difference in many lives. In 2017, 76 members from all over the country applied for money to assist them to achieve their goals and dreams. We were able to make a contribution to 48 members, which is a significant increase on our first year.

A number attended conferences, or undertook study or training programmes. Others were given assistance to purchase equipment or aids, including contributions toward customised compression garments, customised sports equipment, massage units for pain management, a first aid course for a parent, medic alert bracelets, an internal home safety call button just to name a few. We also funded a small number of technology devices, such as a back-up electricity supply unit, helped with the high cost of hearing aids and replaced baskets and batteries for mobility scooters. We were also able to assist with funding towards the placement cost of Mobility Assistance Dogs and support member attendance at camps.

The need in our community is so great, that we simply cannot support all of our members who apply for funding. We need help to sustain, and hopefully grow, this fund for the future and that's where you can make a difference! We have an open goal on this page, and any contribution you can make, big or small, will change the life of a member with a neuromuscular condition.
