To purchase the cancer drug “Osimertinib” not funded by Pharmac in New Zealand

Canterbury

Our dear friend Gaye Fisher has been battling cancer now for some years. Recently she was given the most devasting news that her time with us was now to be measured in weeks if she can not start treatment straight away. This treatment, Osimertinib, costs $10,000 per month as it’s not funded and it’s being sourced from Australia.

The money from this page will help ease the burden of coming up with this enormous amount on a monthly basis.

Gaye has been a battler all her life and her strength has never been tested more than over the last eight years.

From losing her beloved son Adam in the Christchurch earthquake to discovering Adams youngest son, who was born after his death, had developed leukaemia.

Gaye then developed breast cancer which resulted in a mastectomy and subsequent surgery, all this time Gaye remained brave and positive.

It is now time for Gaye’s “village” to get behind her and help fund this medicine she so desperately needs.

Any surplus funds will be used to support Gaye’s partner Max and family.

Wendy Kingsbury's involvement (page creator)

I have known Gaye for 28 years and in that time I have been privileged to be called one of her dearest friends. Gaye has been dogged with tragedy in the last 8 years with losing her son, supporting his partner when their youngest was diagnosed with leukaemia and then suffering cancer herself. Gaye has a heart of gold and I, along with her “angels” want to give back to this brave woman.

Use of funds

These funds will primarily go to covering the cost of the cancer treatment. If there is any surplus this will go to supporting Gaye’s partner and her family.

Funds will be paid to Mia Griffiths who very close friend of Gaye's.

Cancer treatment working  2 August 2019

Hi everyone - an update on our warrior!

Gaye has had the extraordinary news that the cancer treatment she is purchasing from Australia is having a favourable effect on her in as much as the tumours on her brain have shrunk ever so slightly. This has prompted a new push to keep purchasing the medication at $11,000 a month and a new story regarding cancer patients having to purchase drugs from overseas is to be published in the Christchurch paper tomorrow 3rd August. Gaye is so grateful to all you wonderful people who have donated and hope this publicity will stimulate a new burst of generosity.

Thank you from Gaye and her family
