Geneva (28) has terminal cancer which is beginning to spread fast, and we are asking for your help to alleviate the financial burden.
Auckland
In October 2021 our darling Geneva was given 4-10 months to live. She and James made the most of that time by getting married, moving into a sanctuary they dreamed of, and spending every spare minute together.
6 months, then 10 months, then 12 months passed and things started to look brighter. Fast forward almost two years and Geneva has outlived all the doctors’ expectations. She started back at work and volunteering at multiple charities while James went back to working long days.
Two months ago, James and Geneva got the news they hoped would never come. The most recent scans show that the tumors have spread to a point where Geneva is now in hospice care. That means she is being kept comfortable through pain medication and surgeries but there are no more treatment options available. The end of the walk home is getting closer. It may be months, weeks, or days.
Although unable to work and getting increasingly tired, Geneva is sunshine in human form and continues to find joy every day. She continues to make everyone around her feel special and loved and even when she can barely give herself love, she will always find a way to make others shine. As expenses mount, we kindly ask for your support.
Geneva has graced our lives with her kindness, strength, and radiant spirit and as she navigates the final stages of her journey with terminal cancer, we have a unique opportunity to make a profound difference and allow Geneva to experience comfort, joy and love in her remaining days.
Friends of Geneva.
James and Geneva are too proud to ask for help. But luckily, they have some friends who can see how much they are struggling to make ends meet on even the most basic of expenses such as rent and food, let alone hospital appointments and funeral expenses.
Geneva is out of hospital and being cared for by hospice and my loved ones 17 October 2023
I made it out of hospital! It was pretty touch and go for a bit there but luckily I’m now getting settled at home under the care of hospice, my wonderful husband and my closest family and friends.
The latest hospital visit informed us that the cancer has spread to the pericardium (the lining around my heart) which accumulated as a cancerous fluid build up. Essentially the cancer was crushing my heart so it had to be drained. 480mL was drained and although it was a difficult and painful experience, I’m feeling better now that it’s out. This will start to build up again but we’re hoping it will take some time before it’s back at the stage of needing another drain.
We really appreciate all the love and support we’ve been given. The abundance of flowers and meals really have made a difference, and we appreciate all the little things that are helping us on this journey.
Thank you to everyone who had donated to our page, which has eased the pressure off basic needs and enabled James to take some time off work to be there for me when I need it the most.
We appreciate your continued support in the form of loving thoughts sent to us instead of messages.
At this stage, it’s hard to predict just how long I have left, so we’re doing our best to make the most of the days we’ve got.
Here’s some photos from our park adventure yesterday, where James wheeled me up the top of one tree hill and all the way around just so I could see the cherry blossoms 🌸🤍
