Ged's facing 2 years physical rehab, has had a leg amputated and a head injury after smashing up a mates motorbike - he needs our help

Auckland

Things were looking up for Gerard - returning to the workforce following his industrial accident, a new job, more money, life was on the up.

Then Ged had this serious motorcycle accident, crashing a friends Harley-Davidson & leaving him within a whisker of death.

Many, many broken bones. Multiple fractures to both legs and arms, broken hands & feet, broken ribs, punctured lung, bleeding on the brain, broken cheek bones and eye sockets.

Ged's well smashed up and lucky still to be alive. Now he faces years of rehabilitation.

I know Gerards friends and family would like to help Ged with his rehabilitation - if you can give a little and show your support for Ged it will make a big difference for him.

Gerard had an industrial accident 3 years back which left him off work and struggling financially; things were coming right for him... and now he faces 2years + rehabilitation and a huge life change..

I see the funding as helping to pay for any medical or personal assistance Gerard will need during his rehabilitation over and above what ACC can offer and to provide some piece of mind by assisting with his finances.

Gerards faces years of rehabilitation from injury again.

I want to help out by giving others an easy way to contribute & help Jed over this trauma.

October progress update  12 October 2015

I went to see Gerard on Friday and he is making good progress.

The cast has come off his left leg - he is now in a moon boot and learning to take his weight and stand on his left leg.

Ged is due to get a prosthetic for the right leg on 21/10/15 and start learning to walk again.

He got new glasses yesterday so should be able to see clearly with his left eye.

Ged's left hand is still all bunched up as the tendons were affected in the operations on his left arm; he is working daily on stretching the tendons to regain the proper use of his hand.

Ged's been making great progress following the head injury - almost back to his old self.

He has a very positive oulook and is concentrating on his rehab but gets depressed when thinking about the future - please keep up ph calls/texts/visits to help keep Ged positive.

Gerards mobile is 0210627530

He is now in House 5 at ABI Rehabilitation Centre, 180 Metcalf Road, Ranui.

Will probably be ther another 6-8 weeks.
