Gift of Care at Christmas
You can help make Christmas special for a Hospice Waikato patient and their family over Christmas. By donating to our Gift of Care for Christmas, you will be supporting a patient who will be staying in our Inpatient Unit over the Christmas period.
What a lovely way to have a positive impact on the life of a person who is living with the effects of a terminal illness.
For every $1,000 raised, we can provide support and care to a patient and help create precious memories during the holiday season.
Your Gift of Care, no matter the amount, helps contribute to making cherished memories within a family that will be treasured for time. Your gift of care will help provide respite care, pain and symptom management and end of life services.
What is an in-patient unit?
Hospice Waikato has an 11-bed inpatient unit (IPU) where patients can be admitted for symptom and pain management, respite care and end of life services. IPU also provides respite for families and carers who are looking after a person with a terminal illness.
Our focus in IPU is on managing symptoms and improving a patient’s quality of life - this approach is central to our philosophy. The length of a stay is decided on an individual basis, but most stays can be between 7 and 10 days.
Hospice Waikato provides palliative care services and therapeutic support for patients and their families. All services are provided at no charge. Hospice Waikato is home to Rainbow Place, New Zealand's only specialist children's palliative care service.
