Girls Rock! Tāmaki Makarau is a week-long music holiday programme to be held in January 2021

Auckland

WHO ARE WE?

Girls Rock! Tāmaki Makarau is a week-long holiday programme to be held in January 2021 for young women, and/or intersex, transgender, or gender non-conforming youth. Open to ages 12 to 17, they’ll learn instruments, form bands, and write original songs, all guided by professional musicians in a women-led environment.

WHAT IS IT?

Alongside collaborative learning, participants will take part in workshops about positive body image, zine-making, and performance. Each day, they’ll enjoy lunchtime performances from local artists; in 2020 this included performances by CHAII, Fazerdaze, Alexa Casino and Nothing But Hole.

WHAT UNDERPINS OUR WORK?

The kaupapa of Girls Rock! is to empower young women, transgender and gender non-conforming youth by giving them practical skills and role models in a safe, supportive space. We are a non-profit organisation made up of musicians and music lovers with years of music industry experience. We are committed to guiding the advancement and empowerment of young women and gender minorities - but we can’t do it alone.

WHERE DO YOU COME IN?

Girls Rock! Tāmaki Makaurau has already run three successful programmes but we need your help!

Your generosity will help provide young women, transgender and gender non-conforming youth the chance to create, to learn and grow, and to let their voices be heard!

Girls Rock! Camp Aotearoa is registered with the New Zealand Companies Office as an Incorporated Society.
