The kaupapa of Girls Rock and To the Front is to empower youth by giving them practical skills and role models in a safe, supportive space.

Girls Rock is a charity that offer holiday programmes for young women, trans, intersex, takatāpui, queer and gender-diverse youth where music is the medium to build confidence, empowerment and foster social change. Youth between the ages of 12-17 years will form bands, learn instruments, attend workshops and write an original song to be performed at a concert for friends and family at a showcase.
The Goals of Girls Rock Aotearoa
1. To help young women, and/or intersex, trans, takatāpui, queer and gender diverse youth build confidence and practical skills in songwriting and music through tutoring and practice.
2. To utilise the talent of local songwriters and music-makers to help mentor and guide participants.
3. To educate young people through talks and collaborative workshops on songwriting, design, feminism and wellbeing.
4. To support and promote the presence of women, and/or intersex, trans, takatāpui, queer and gender diverse youth in music.

An End of Year Update from Girls Rock Aotearoa and To The Front! 2 December 2025
This year has already been full of exciting programmes, unforgettable events, and new workshops that have expanded our reach and impact across Aotearoa. We facilitated four holiday programmes, held our official charity launch party, had workshops on music release and promotion, sustainable styling, mentor skills, songwriting, and DIY gigs! And we’ve still got some upcoming programmes!

Friday 6 - Sunday 8 February - Waitangi Weekend - overnight stay Friday & Saturday nights at The Learning Environment Pīwaiwaka Farm
This programme is open to people who live in Manawatū-Whanganui only. All musical experience levels welcome!
Coming up - To The Front Tāmaki Makaurau!
From Monday 12 to Saturday 17 January 2026, at SAE Creative Institute, To The Front is open to youth aged 12-17 years who are women, intersex, trans, takatāpui and gender diverse. They’ll learn instruments, form bands, write original songs, and perform at a showcase, all guided by professional musicians in a gender inclusive environment.
