Let's give Milton & Delsa one less thing to worry about

$6,970 of $30,000 goal
Given by 77 generous donors in around 6 months

No medical or critical care cover, their family’s income reducing from 2 to 1 and the stress of finding a new home is proving overwhelming.

Hamilton, Waikato

On 27 May 2023, Milton was rushed to hospital after 7 days of severe stomach pains. He went straight to surgery where it was discovered he had an abnormal, aggressive bowel cancer. The cancer was removed leaving Milton in a critical state.

On 15 June 2023, after 3 surgeries, Delsa was advised by Milton’s medical team that further operations to stop his bleeding and repair the damage to his perforated bowels were not possible given the fragility of his body. Delsa was told to gather her family to ‘prepare for his passing’. An invitation was extended to members of their faith, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, to participate in a 24-hour fast for a medical miracle!

On 22 June 2023, and what could only be described as the power of God, Milton’s medical team was shocked and delighted to inform Delsa that Milton’s condition was stable, and that they were preparing him for surgery the next day and days thereafter.

On 27 August 2023, after 14 weeks of being hospitalised and 6 surgeries, Milton’s care was placed in the hands of the Colorectal Team. Milton was advised his abdomen would need to be left open to heal correctly and it would remain like this for at least the next 6 months as his body was still inoperable.

During this time, their rental was sold, and they now have until November 2023 to find a new home. Milton's leave entitlements end in October 2023, and Delsa's sick leave is coming to an end.

Gina Elkington's involvement (page creator)

We have become very good friends with Milton and Delsa (Milton's wife) over the many years we have known them.

Use of funds

Help raise funds for Milton’s long recovery including any unexpected medical care (such as ambulance charges, medication, community services not funded by the government, a special bed or chair, showering equipment) and support services for him, and for Delsa to find a new rental and to have financial options in her very delicate work/life balance.

An update from Delsa (Milton's wife): Milty is back in ICU  11 October 2023

Milty has done a full 360 and has returned to ICU. Hopefully it’s only for a day or 2 🙏🏾 We are grateful for your love, but I hope it’s ok that I ask if we can put his hospital visits on hold until he is back in the general surgical ward. Alofa tele 💜
