Give Roxy a chance at life

Surgery gone wrong, help our baby walk again and be able to be a puppy.

Christchurch, Canterbury

Roxy came into our care at 6-months of age, and to our dismay we discovered she had Bilateral Elbow Dysplasia and Mild Hip Dysplasia only a few months later. Fortunately, we had gotten her covered by pet insurance from the day we got her.

Roxy got a Proximal Ulna Osteotomy and fragment removal done on her right elbow on the 1st of October. This surgery was $6588.04. In addition to this, we had to pay $230 for the specialist consult, $481.30 for initial Xray investigations, and we have since been taking her to Physio (alternating weeks by $60 hydrotherapy, and $155 for physio + hydrotherapy). She has just hit the 8-week mark and unfortunately is still incredibly lame.

Follow-up Xrays were done on Friday (28/11) for $405.90 and unfortunately they have shown our baby girl is not healing, as the bone slid too far past where it should be.

Roxy requires a second surgery to put either a plate or a pin in to stabilise the bone and try help it heal. This is the only option for her. Fortunately, the clinic has given us a discount but this will still cost us $3491 for the surgery and we will have ongoing rehab costs. We have unfortunately exhausted $7862.24 of our $10,000 cover. Leaving us with $2137.76. We will require another 12+ weeks of rehab ($1860 minimum), which really leaves us with $277.76. And this is given there are no further complications.

We have gotten to the point where we have needed to reach out for help. We want her to be able to have some chance at a normal life.

2.5 weeks post op  27 December 2025

Just a wee update. Rox suffered an infection quite early on (just 1 week post op), but we noticed straight away and took her in. She is on a month course of antibiotics, a swab was taken to make sure they are the right treatment. It has made drastic improvements already!! We have started 5-minute controlled walks, and our next physio session is on the 6th of Jan. She is doing well, and we hope she maintains this progress. Xray's will be done at 6 weeks which will be the confirmation we need to see if it is healing. Thank you again, Love Kristen, Joey, Roxy and Ruby x

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
