1 in every 10 Kiwis struggle every day with reading asnd writing. Help RYALT ensure that everyone has access to literacy support.
Nationwide
We all want every New Zealander to have access to reading and writing help, no matter how isolated they are.
Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust was established for teenagers and adults all across New Zealand, but with a particular focus on those that live in rural areas, are isolated or don’t have access to a Literacy centre.
11.8% of New Zealanders have literacy levels below those required for everyday life. That’s 1 in every 10 people struggling with tasks most of us take for granted, such as replying to a text, writing an email or reading the newspaper. This struggle leads to feelings of shame, self-doubt that they are “dumb” and trying to hide their difficulties -“Little White Lies” as one of our students wrote. This can affect their job prospects, mental health and self-esteem.
We provide free 1:1 support with reading and writing that is flexible and can be done online via Zoom or Google Meet. Trained volunteers work with students 1-3 times a week to help them improve their literacy skills.
We depend on your support to continue our important mahi. With your help, we can provide students to receive 1:1 tuition from their own personal coach.
Our students say having help with their reading and writing makes a huge difference in their self-confidence and helping them believe in their capabilities.
Remember, literacy is a fundamental right, not a privilege. Join us in making a difference.
RYALT is a non-profit organization that supplies free help to isolated teenagers and adults who have trouble with reading and writing anywhere around New Zealand.
This will help us provide free writing and reading 1:1 coaching for students all over NZ but especially for those that are rural or isolated and can't get into an urban literacy centre.
