Coeliac New Zealand's volunteer Sam Wemyss organised a wonderful open day for 36 people affected by the cyclone in Havelock North. Each family was gifted a bag of gluten free groceries thanks to the generous donations of our donors to the Coeliac NZ Cyclone Relief Givealittle page. Thank you!

  • Matariki a Time to Celebrate.

      13 July 2023
    Main image

3 months since we closed this page and I just want to thank everyone again who donated to this specific cyclone page for Coeliac New Zealand.

Matariki is upon us and the appearance of Matariki healds a time of remembrance, joy and peace. It is a time for communities to come together and celebrate. We celebrate the contributions you all made to this fundraiser for CNZ.

Also, a reminder that the very best way to enhance your own disaster resilience is by reducing stress. You can do that through strategies such as relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga, deep breathing exercises, going for a walk or run, chatting with someone who cares about you, and/or talking to a health professional if you feel overwhelmed.

Avoid drugs and excessive drinking and maintain your healthy eating habits.

Be patient with yourself and others.

These strategies are all part of mental and physical well-being, and our Coeliac NZ Wellbeing Journal has some tips. If you don’t have a copy of this excellent journal, visit our website store or email Fred on admin@coeliac.org.nz to purchase one.

If you'd like to support CNZ with the work we do on a day to day basis please visit our website to donate or donate on the other general page on this givealittle site.

    Nga mihi

    Wendy Bremner, General Manager

    Hi everyone

As the cyclone relief is being managed now by other agencies and the immediate response to the disaster by the wonderful people on the ground is coming to a close we are closing this page for receiving donations.

If however you wish to donate to Coeliac NZ to support the work we do , please visit our organisation's givealittle page https://givealittle.co.nz/org/coeliacnz which is open for donations at all time, or visit our website to find out more. Coeliac New Zealand Incorporated (CNZ) raises awareness, provides support, information and resources to people who must follow a gluten free diet, their whanau and the wider community. We have the support of a panel of experts on our Medical Advisory Panel, our governance board and our volunteers around the regions. Increasing awareness of CD is instrumental in more diagnoses being made and helping people to thrive and live their best coeliac life!

Thank you Wendy Bremner, General Manager

PS: We are also hosting a conference this year in November 2023 pop a ring around the 18th of November in your diaries now!!

  • Your help made a difference

Another good news update - from March.

Our Health Promotion Manager lives in the Thames Coromandel region and saw a community cut-off, with severe damage to the roads in and out of the Peninsula. This meant supply to local supermarkets was limited for some gluten-free products and staples. Thanks to the efforts of YetteMoosh and our crossed grain partners they were able to get Coeliac Safe Gluten Free food parcels into this region too to help with the immediate needs after the cyclone.

  • A message from one of the helpers in HB - Lisa Henare

"Hi Gluten Free Family, Lisa here. As I get closer to signing off at my end, I wanted to say a big thank you to Bronda Smith and the team at the environment centre in Hastings for their donations and support. It all started from my friend texting me after the cyclone, “someone needs gluten free food” which resulted in me meeting Bronda Smith and Colleen Horton. The rest is history. The journey in Hawkes Bay is far from over but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world. X"

This update is to highlight one of the legends who has been supporting people during this disaster.

Colleen is one of those people who just gets on with it. She is one of the amazing team in HB under the Coeliac HB cyclone Relief fb page. She together with Lisa, Bronda Smith and other drivers and donors of product and support rallied to the call after the cyclone, “someone needs gluten free food” . they have travelled hundreds of kilometres back and forth over the last few weeks delivering donated product to those affected in the Cyclone area.

  • Thank you for your generosity

      27 February 2023

To all the wonderful donors who have made contributions so far, thank you! This money will be used solely to help support the work being done to get safe gluten free food to people affected by the cyclone.

We hear stories everyday from those on the ground and it is a little overwhelming. You are making a real difference!

Please let other's know how they can help too.

All the very best from the CNZ team.
