Raising funds to help Grant represent New Zealand for Sprint Kayaking at the 2022 U23 World Championships in Hungary
Auckland
Hi, I'm Grant and I need your help. Recently I was selected along with four teammates to represent our country at the U23 Kayak Sprint World Championship in Hungary in early September. I am 20 years old and am in my third year of studying commerce and health science at Auckland University. I work part time while juggling a busy Uni timetable and training around 15-20hours hours a week.
I thought it would be nice to share a bit about me and my journey, so…. I have been lifeguarding at Piha beach since I was 14 and I compete in surf lifesaving competitions for the club. About two years ago I started sprint kayaking as a way to help improve my surf lifesaving ski paddling (and in the back of my mind I had dreams of going to the Olympics), and since then my kayaking has evolved and so have my goals.
U23 Worlds is a stepping stone in my journey and one that I hope to learn heaps from. I’m really looking forward to it but need your help to get there.
The World Champs are being held in Szeged, Hungary in early September. I will be racing in the K-2 500m and K-4 500m. The racing will be live on Youtube and I’ll be posting updates on my Instagram if you're keen to follow along.
I thank you all so much for helping me achieve my dreams and goals.
Feel free to email me at grantclancynz@gmail.com if you have any questions or would like to get in touch with sponsorship opportunities.
Every donation is greatly appreciated. The money will go to supporting Grant’s World Championships campaign with travel costs, entry fees, Uniform and training camps.
1 Month to Go! 5 August 2022
Hi Everyone,
First of all, thank you all very much for donating. It's a huge help and is making this worlds campaign possible. It is great to see the support and encouraging messages.
The team and I leave in just under 20 days now and will be racing at the end of the month. I’ll put up another update closer to racing with a link to watch it. I'm getting excited for the trip and looking forward to the high level racing.
Training Update: Training has been going really well. I’ve been paddling once or twice a day which ads up to about 80-100km per week. Along with paddling I gym 2-3 times and run 2-3 times to get some well-rounded training and be ready as possible for racing. The weeks are pretty busy and tiring but Sunday I have a nice sleep in to recover for the next week.
Thanks again and I’ll keep you updated on how things are going.
Cheers,
Grant
